Solo Reef, also known as North Astrolabe Reef, lies just to the north of Dravuni Island in the Great Astrolabe Reef. According to tradition, Solo Reef is the locale of a formerly inhabited island which submerged. Fishermen from Dravuni respect the memory of the drowned islanders by not throwing rubbish overboard.

  • I believe this is also the location of a lighthouse to warn the passing ships of the presence of the Great Astrolabe reefs. I remember sailing past these idealic reefs and islets back in the early 50s, and I bet, they are just as beautiful now!
