On the 18th of March 1943, during World War II and German occupation, Maassluis was bombed by the allied forces trying to hit German vessels and fuelsupplies. Unfortunately they didn't hit their targets. Instead, 19 citizens of Maassluis lost their lives. For many others, the material damage was enormous.
