Kalasan or Tara Temple was built around the end of the century or early eighth century AD over an ancient temple. An ancient inscription made in the year 778 AD on the orders of Raka i Panangkaran and found not far from the temple and gave an explanation that the temple was built to honor the female Bodhisattva, Tara. Initially, only one temple on the temple site Kalasan, but once dug deeper we get more support buildings around the temple. This temple has a height of 6 meters and 52 stupas

This inscription also states this temple made by the two kings together the kings of the House of Syailendra and the king of the Mataram Hindu unknown at the time of Wangsa Syailendra.

The temple is located approximately 2 km west of Prambanan temple, which is on the side of the road between Yogyakarta and Solo is categorized as a Buddhist temple. Although not yet known what was used as a symbol of the god as a statue in the main hall of the temple, but this statue has more than six feet tall and made of bronze.
