  • Georgia O'Keeffe is reported to have said of Cerro Pedernal "It's my private mountain. It belongs to me. God told me if I painted it enough, I could have it." Cerro Pedernal's meaning in Spanish is "flint hill." Its stone was used for arrowheads and spearpoints by indigenous people. On its 9862 foot summit, Georgia O'keeffe's ashes were scattered.
