Ramp to Corporate Woods Boulevard

This would have been the eastern terminus of Interstate 687. Originally meant to connect to I-87 to make it easier for downtown residents to get to the airport. Opposition from the Town of Colonie canceled the project and only the stub remains.

  • Isn't this just the exit that goes to corporate woods? I-87 is so far to the west that I don't see how this could possibly connect to it.
  • Didn't you ever wonder why Corporate woods has such an elaborate exit? it was originally supposed to start a highway connecting to I-87.
  • I still don't see how this could go to I87. Look at all the residential communities it would have to plow through in order to get to 87. It would take 10 miles or so before reaching it!
  • That's why it wasn't built. Colonie residents protested how it would have plowed through their neighborhoods and ultimately it was canceled.
  • The newly added link with the plan should shed some light. It looked hard to believe at first, but it is true.
  • The canceling of this highway is also why the I87 Northway doesn't have an Exit 3. The I87/I686 interchange would have been I87 Exit 3. A couple of other canceled highways in the area also explain why the Route 9/I90 interchange directly to the east of this exit is so complex and why the east end of the Dunn Memorial Bridge looks like it was stopped in mid construction.
