The inauguration of the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 1969 gave the arts a home. The CCP was created in 1966 through Executive Order No. 30 with the purpose of promoting and preserving Filipino arts and culture. It was formally inaugurated on September 8, 1969.

Several companies representing the different arts reside within the CCP. There are four resident dance companies: Ballet Philippines, Philippine Ballet Theater, the Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company and the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group. The Tanghalang Pilipino is the CCP's resident theater company. The CCP's resident music companies are the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, also the Philippines' national orchestra, the UST Symphony Orchestra, the Philippine Madrigal Singers and the Music Competitions for Young Artists Foundation (NAMCYA).

Other establisments at CCP Complex: Folk Arts Theater, Philippine International Convention Center(PICC), Coconut Palace, Hotel Philipine Plaza and Star City.

  • I hear a lot of guys were buried alive in this thing when it collapsed during initial construction. That's just the kind of lady Imelda was. Get 'er done, no matter the consequences.
  • Very beautiful place, especially with the Fountain at night. Photo here: http://gallery.jml-i.com/gallery5.htm
  • Here Ms.May (my love) held their graduation(MCU) in April 17, 2007.
  • The construction workers who were buried alive were in the Film Center in this compound. The CCP building itself did not experience such a collapse.
  • Isn't it the Folf Arts Theater that collapsed and many people died? My mother and my professor told me that...and so as other old people present in that time. It's true that the building collapsed during construction, but it's not the CCP.
  • its agreat place and i love it
  • It's the olf Folk Arts Theatre that collapsed in preparation of the Miss Universe pageant in Manila. Former First Lady Imelda Marcos did unusual and amazing improvement in Manila during their reign that focused on infrustructure. The Filipino people should thank Ms. Imelda for her tremendous share in the country's heritage. At those years, Manila ranks among the most advance cities in Asia levelling that of Tokyo. But due to the corrupt people, Manila is now way behind the cities of Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. How sad....
