The Armstrong Bridge market is held every Sunday between 10am and 4pm.

The market has been taking place on the bridge in Jesmond Dene, Newcastle upon Tyne since 1963 when it was closed to traffic.

Since then it's played host to many traders selling arts and crafts produced locally.

These include items as diverse as leather goods, contemporary art, mirrors handmade from reclaimed wood, greetings cards, sculpture, knitwear and framed prints of local scenes.

From 9.30am the traders gather on the bridge and by 10am it is a hive of activity as last minute preparations are made and people start to examine the wares.

There is a feeling of bohemian tranquillity as the traders settle in for the day with their flasks of hot coffee and soup whilst shoppers get to experience something a bit different to the hustle and bustle of the modern shopping centre.

The family friendly pedestriansed bridge is the perfect environment in which to relax and let the kids roam free.

Browse the stalls and chat with the people who have made the goods, enjoy an ice cream or simply take in the views across Jesmond Dene.

With the recent launch of the market's website, Armstrong Bridge (which takes place on a bridge built during the industrial revolution) is fully embracing the communications revolution.

The website provides additional information about some of the traders and an opportunity to purchase their goods online as well as further information and pictures of the market itself.

So take a visit to the website, or even better, visit Jesmond Dene to enjoy the full experience.

The Armstrong Bridge arts and crafts market is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon and pick up something not available anywhere else at a very good price.
