The Umbracle is a structure built out of brick and wood. Its naves, supported by fine iron columns, are full of plants, mostly tropical, which normally grow in the shade of great forests. Inside are some benches wehere visitors can sit down and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. The Umbracle was built for the Universal Exhibition of 1888.

  • Designed in 1887 by the architect Josep Fontserè i Mestre, who also designed the nearby fountain la Cascada del Parc Ciutadella. An assistant on the latter project was young architect Antoni Gaudi.
