Ajman International Airport (Arabic: مطار عجمان الدولي) is a yet to be built international airport that will serve Ajman, the smallest emirate of the United Arab Emirates. Project construction will commence in the late 2008-early 2009 period. The area delineated here in the Al Manama area of Ajman corresponds to where the runway and taxiways of the future airport will be located.
The airport will cover more than 60 million square feet when finished in 2011 or 2012. It will accommodate commercial aircraft with a capacity of 1 million passengers a year rising up to 10.4 million by 2046, as well as cargo of at least 400,000 tonnes, and corporate aviation among other infrastructure capabilities.
Ajman International Airport will be developed by a number of companies, led by Spanish corporation Groupo Inmobiliario Whitelake. Others involved are ICTS Europe, Steel Law, Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) and Fakhruddin Group, a UAE-based developer. An initial investment of Dhs 1.5 billion has come in from Spanish companies looking to develop the property, and even more will be financed by local banks.
25 airlines have sent letters of intent for landing rights even at this very early stage. Adjacent to the airport, several residential and commercial properties will be developed to provide housing for employees of the airport and those of other investments in the airport area.
Currently on hold. (2016)
