St. Michael's Cathedral is the Roman Catholic cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Alba Iulia, Transylvania, Romania, and the oldest and the longest cathedral in the country.
Situated inside the Alba Iulia Vauban Citadel, st. Michael Cathedral is one of the most valuable Romanic architecture monuments in Transylvania. Construction of the structure began in the early XI-th century end ended in the XIII-th. The Cathedral served as the seat for the Transylvanian Diocese until the interbellum agreement between Romania And Vatican, and has served as the seat for the Alba Iula Roman Catholic Diocese since.
This monument is rather unique as it combines Romanic and Gothic architectural styles.
