Chujeon Korail Station is the highest train station in South Korea at an elevation of 855 meters.
Chujeon Station was built in 1973 to service coal mines in the area. After two oil shortages during the 70s, increasing coal output was promoted but when oil price dropped in the 80s and after the coal industry's rationalization policy that mediated coal production was implemented, a most of mines were closed . Passenger traffic ended December 31, 2007.
Today this quaint little station is mostly a tourist destination.
