Commonwealth law requires the Australian Capital Territory has sea access, so the southern coastline of the Beecroft Peninsula is a part of the ACT (to a depth of approximately 500-1000m), while the rest of the Peninsula remains a part of NSW. Both parts are controlled by the Department of Defence on behalf of the RAN.
The Point Perpendicular lighthouse and its residence remains a NSW enclave within the ACT part.
