Already in 1239 mention in the ancient chronicles the first St. Bavo Parish. The first church of St. Bavo, located in the vicinity of the current Hertogenstraat, is demolished in 1577. A temporary church was located on the Legeweg in 1913. In 1919 he expanded a sacristy. Gothic Revival style church in 1913. Delayed construction of the church due to the First World War.
The present church was completed in 1934. The result is a Neo-Romanesque church.
