village, clay
An old clay village on the edge of St Austell Town.
Bugle is located about 4 miles inland of St Austell. The village came into being during the 18th and 19th century when it was at the heart of the china clay industry, with deposits unrivalled pretty much anywhere else in the World. The lanscape around here is testament to the scale of the mining with pyramids of waste dotting the landscape. Over recent years these have started being flattened out.
It is in a disused china clay pit that the nearby Eden Project was created and there are a fair few more that have become small lakes. Whilst china clay is still the areas main industry, it is in severe decline.
