  • Those who loves beauty of nature atleast visit this place once...... Govt of maharashtra must encourage Koyna Dam as a tourist spot
  • But this dam is wating the precius water by way of electricity, after generating the power it discharging the water into Arabia Sea and that much water is wated. Had this water is not discharged into Arabia Sea it would have travelled in the Krishna River and would have gone towards Bay of Bengal and taht water would have been utilised to produce the power at least in 5 different places and also would have been used for irrigating around 2-3 lakh Acres of land. Just imagine how mush is wasted! Is it not a national wastage? Because of regional focus we are losing thousands of crores of rupees worth electricity and also the food! How baaaaaaaaad it is! Request all the good people to think on it.
  • Water Discharged from Koyana flows through river Krishna and meets Bay of Bengal and not Arabian Sea as misguidingly posted by Amar in the above post. The water discharged from the dam is not wasted and is captured in 5 projects, namely Almatti, Narayanpur, Jurala, Sri Shailam and Nagarjun Sagar in Karnataka and Andhara Pradesh respectively where electrycity is also generated along with irrigation. The little amount of water discharged westward through canal which meets Arabian Sea is utilised for irrigation in Ratnagiri District of Maharashtra. The water discharged from Koyna is by no means a 'waste' and it would be stupid to call it a national waste. Please dont post misguiding information.
  • The information provided by Amit is absolutely correct. The water released from Koyna flows to Bay of Bengal and is captured by many dams on its way. The water is not wasted.
  • Lush Green with no black/brown patch till infinite!. Doesn't want to return back. Boating in shivsagar lake is never ending enjoyment.
  • Amar has put it in rite perspective. All dams just store water during the monsoon and use them all through year for irrigation and electricity generation. At the same time there is a project under review to supply the presently discharged water into Arabian sea of Koyna as drinking water to the coastal towns/cities including Mumbai.
  • I was here from 1990 to 2006. 1990 to 1996 school days, 1996 to 1998 college at Patan, 1998 to 2002 engineering at Panvel but in well touch with Koyna. And again 2002 to 2006 worked at KHEP Stage IV B project. Such a long period of life in touch with nature. I always use wondering in jungles with my friends santosh, sanjay, yuvraj. Its amaizing to walk on the roads with bare foots during the low rainy days in August & september. Everybody has to experince ones in life. I am knowing the complete history of Koyna with the detailed information of Koyna Dam & Koyna Hydro Electric Project right from Stage I to Stage VI B. By of my badluck i was not able to present to see the historic moment of Double Lake Tapping on 13th March, 1999. I would suggest to everybody to visit Koyna just once. I am sure no one of you will happy to visit just once. It is cool throughout the year. By the seasons its very cold during winter( temperature may fall upto 10), very rainy from mid of June to mid of August, quite hot during mid of May. For additional information just mail me at vijaymolawade@yahoo.com, by this time(May 2009) i am in Mumbai, working with Larsen & Toubro Ltd., as Asst. Manager.
