  • I spent Christmas 1963 in the General Walker. It was awesome. The area was simply beautiful. (Marks were four to the dollar).
  • I have been to the Gen Walker 8 times. great times sorry to see it go......
  • I visited the General Walker several times with my family since 1971. It was a remarkable hotel with a breathtaking view of the Bavarian Alps. It's sad to learn that it's gone, without a though to preserving its German and American history!
  • I also have very fond memories of the General Walker, in the Obersalzburg area and a short drive to Salzburg, Austria. Why did the German and/or Americans not try to preserve it?
  • Spent a week there in 1982 during a ski trip with family
  • In 1983 15 Missile Battery Royal Artillery had a months adventure training in the Obersaltzburg area. the US Military allowed us to use the General Walker facility. Looking at some of the later pictures and the demise of the hotel was so very sad.

  • My family and I had the good fortune to stay at the General Walker Hotel twice in the early 90's, I was deeply saddened to hear that the German's opted to destroy something with such historic value.
  • I have very fond memories of the General Walker. As an army brat I stayed there with my family twice while my Dad was stationed in Kassel and Rothweston Germany. The place was magnificent, the lobby was awesome, especially to a little kid! This was in about 1959 and 1960. The view.. Wow. I remember too they had some slot machines in the basement that my brother and I could run a few deutsche marks thru. Deutsche marks were the German dollars so they were pretty exciting. Luckily deutsche marks were exactly four to the US dollar then. I was just trying to show it to my daughter and see it's a parking lot now. sigh.
  • My parents and I were in the group of last Americans to stay at the General Walker before it was returned to the Germans. A lot of the services had already ceased and we were told we would be the last group to go into the bunker system.
