The Battle of Five Forks occurred on April 1st, 1865, and resulted in the Confederacy's abandonment of Petersburg, and more importantly was a precipitating event that led eventually to the Confederacy's surrender at Appomattox Court House. The battlefield is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
