Mafalda di Savoia (Rome, November 19th 1902 - Buchenwald, 28 August 1944), second daughter of Vittorio Emanuele III (1873 - 1947), in September 1925 she married the Landgrave Philip of Hesse (Germany, 6 November 1896 - Rome, October 25, 1980 ). As a wedding gift they received a house near the Villa Ada, which the couple gave the name of Villa Polyxena, in memory of Princess Polyxena Christina of Hesse-Rotenburg, second wife of Charles Emmanuel III of Savoy.
