Daisen-in (Kyoto)

Japan / Kyoto / Kyoto / Murasakino Daitokuji-cho, 54-1
 temple, buddhist temple

The Daisenin at the Daitokuji complex is famous for its Kare Sansui rock and gravel garden. It is in a tiny space and divided into to parts. On the left is the mountains and river (of gravel) which "flows" under a bridge into a ocean on which a stone boat "floats." It illustrates the notion that enlightenment is as difficult to obtain as it is is to cross the ocean in a stone boat.
