Tidö Castle, with its beautiful sandstone portals, is built in a tight Dutch renaissance style. The castle has been owned by the von Schinkel family ever since Carl von Schinkel bought it in 1890. In 1971 Tidö Castle, best known for its 43 exquisite intarsia doors made in the 1630s, was opened to the public. Tidö Castle is also home to Sweden’s first toy museum which opened 17 June 1974 and contains thousands of toys from all over the world as well as the Swedish King’s old toys. In summer 2010 the toy museum will be moving to new premises in the old stone stables (Gamla Stenstallet) and will instead be called Tidö Toy and Comic Museum. The exhibition of comics will consist of private collections and rarities bought by the museum, including first editions, original illustrations and merchandising material.
