Burial site for UGA I thru VI, mascots of the University of Georgia since 1956. Believed to be the only instance in which deceased mascots are buried within the confines of an active stadium. Each UGA, all solid white, male, English Bulldogs, have been provided for duty as official mascot by the Seiler family of Savannah, GA since 1956. As each dog is retired, there is a ceremonial “passing of the collar” ceremony to his successor at midfield before the game. The most recent of the mascots, UGA VI, passed away of natural causes June 28, 2008. UGA VII sworn in as mascot on August 30, 2008 prior to the season opener vs. Georgia Southern University. The April 28, 1997 issue of Sports Illustrated named UGA as the nation’s number one college mascot.
