W. P. Franklin Lock and Dam is impounded by Structure 79 Dam on the Caloosahatchee River (C-43) in Lee County, Florida and is used for improved navigation, flood control, drinking water, and recreation purposes. Construction was completed in 1965 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and is of earthen construction. Its length is 1700 feet. Maximum discharge is 28900 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 32266 acre feet. Normal storage is 26404 acre feet. It drains an area of 839 square miles.
