Gaunt park is the largest city park in Yellow Springs. The city swimming pool and two baseball diamonds are located here.
A memorial to Wheeling Gaunt stands at the entrance to the park. Wheeling Gaunt was born into slavery in North Carolina. He purchased his own freedom, as well as that of his wife and another relative, and eventually became a wealthy landowner in Yellow Springs. He bequeathed the park land to the city in 1894, with the stipulation that rents from the land be used to buy flour for the town's widows at Christmas. This tradition continues.
