This town and its surrounding villages paved the way for the growth of the communist movement about fifty years ago.The great martyrs of the communist movement were Thiagi Sivaraman and Vaattakudi Iraniyan. They led underground life when the party was banned and became heroes before the mass after they were shot at by the authority. They laid their life for the upliftment of the oppressed and the downtrodden. After their demise the communist movement grew fastly in the nook and corner of this area

Pattukottai is the Historical important tourist spot with a serene atmosphere and scenic beauty, with a calm Bay of Bengal surrounding it, is not fully exploited in Tanjore district. The place is Manora, located 20 km south of Pattukottai in Sethubhavachatram panchayat union in Tanjore district. The place derives its name from the fort built here by King Serfoji who ruled Tanjore, The fort is called Manora. The 140 ft monument stands majestically on the shore amidst lush green coconut groves. Looking like an ancient lighthouse, the tower was built by King Serfoji in 1811 to commemorate the victory of the British army over Napolean Bonaparte, in the historic battle of Waterloo. Sri.Nadiyamman temple is situated at Pattukkottai Town in Thanjavur District, Tamilnadu. It is at a distance of half a kilo meter from Pattukkottai Bus station and from Railway Station. Here, the mother goddess is called Shri Nadiamman,Nagalingha Viruksham is the Sthala Viruksham here. The deity Shri Nadiamman is being worshiped by one and all of the town with a strong belief for alleviating their grievances One beautiful wooden carved TEMPLE CAR isc also available in this temple.Every year in tamil month of Panguni second Tuesday the Annual festivan of this temple commences with the Kanaganadarana function. and continues for 12 days During the festival, the deity Sri Nadiyamman comes round the town on different vakanas such as Silver kamadhenu, Annam, Poodham, rishabam, Silver Simmam Muthu Pallakku and with the famous Car Festival, the 12 day long annual festival comes to an end. Most of us know that quite a number of Tamil movie lyrics are just of ephemeral value. A small percentage however lives in the minds forever for sentimental reasons. Some exceptional ones do appreciate in value with time. One such song appeared in one of MGR’s hit movies Chakravarthy Thirumagal, 45 years ago. It was composed by poet Pattukottai Kalyanasundaram (1930-1959), who thrilled the Tamil fans like a comet, before meeting an untimely death at the tender age of 29 years. In this particular song, the Pattukottai poet illustrated the goliardic tradition among the Tamil poets by composing the song as a ‘question and answer duel’ between two goliards. Kalaivanar N.S.Krishnan and Sirkazhi Govindarajan rendered this song with exceptional gusto. In the movie, Sirkazhi offers his voice to the character played by MGR, while Krishnan plays the role of MGR’s competitor. Let me reminisce this particular song in original, and I provide English translations at appropriate locations. The initial statements are self introductions of the two who pit their wits. While the first one pompously recites his ‘glories and successes’ and issues the challenge to respond to his questions in ‘one word answers’ (orezhuthu pathil), the second one promptly introduce himself with repartee.

More than that it is a tourist place also. nadiamman temple located near new bus stand is one of the famous temple in Thanjavur district. Manora a historical monument, built by Raja sarofoji around 18th century A.D located near pattukkottai. If BG line between Pattukkottai to Thanjavur comes, this town will definitely witness a tremendous growth.

Hi Friends, All are comments about good side of our city, after 2001 there is no development, 1. Roads are not maintained, and the transport systems to villages are not increased. 2. Drainage Problem - nobody are not take any action, Lot of places drainage water stagnant. Particularly around the bus stand area, oh my God what a smell. 3. Drinking water problem 4. Katta panchayathu. 5. Land acquisition by rowdies, 6. Slum Clearance not acted. 7. Bribes increasing all the Govt. Offices. The sitting MLA Rangarajan not even single talk about this problem in assembly. He only concentrate developing and protecting only his assets. Due to cast’sm the people are electing him again and again. What a hell. Dear young people please do something to our home down. Because still I am loving PKT.

PATTUKKOTTAI IS ONE OF THE WORST MUNICIPALITY IN TAMILNADU. BECAUSE THE MUNICIPALITY ALLOWED THE PEOPLE TO KEEP THE CUTOUTS OF FUNCTIONS. IT IS DANGEROUS TO TRAFFIC. THEY SPENT LOT OF MONEY TO ADVERTISEMENTS. THEY ARE WASTING MONEY. THEY ARE LOVING ADVERTISEMENT. YOU CAN SEE LOT OF CUTOUTS AND HOARDING IN THE SMALL STREETS AND MAKE TRAFFIC JAMS. THEY NEVER FOLLOW THE ROAD RULES, PARTICULARLY PRIVATE TRANSPORT BUS OPERATORS. THE STUDENTS STUDYING WELL, ONLY IN SUBJECTS, BUT NO COMMON SENSE AND NO GENERAL KNOWLEDGE. THE GOVT SCHOOLS ARE BETTER THAN PRIVATE SCHOOLS, BECAUSE THEY SCORED VERY GOOD GROWTH IN PASSING PERCENTAGE

I hail from Pattukottai - My ancestors , father , grandfather & great grandfather were from here . My grandfather constructed the tallest residential building in pattukottai during the 1920s , taller than the temple tower those days , considered an ill-omen .Eventually we lost the property . The building exists to this day , housing govt. departments . Am proud of this city . My ancestors still live in Srinivasapuram in this city - Ask old timers about the KASI FAMILY , you wl know more about us - KASI NAGARAJAN

This town is my native place and we had our house just behind Rengarajan's house. I was studying in Municipal Middle school Kandiyan Street up to 5th standard and in Government Higher secondary school PKT from 6th to 12th. After completing graduation at KMC Adhirampattinam, moved to Hyderabad was there for 8 years, then moved to Bangalore, was there for 15 years and finally settled in Chennai since 2007. Main problem with PKT is nobody cares for development of the town even though we are proud of sending many VIPs to Government, film industry and also to other part of the world. Best example is the absence of a good college for higher studies in PKT town limit. I really faced difficulty in commuting all they way to Adhirampattinam for my graduation. Nobody cared for bringing a good college in 70s and 80s. Next, PKT railway station. Once served by 2 express and 2 passenger services and had a direct express service to Madras, is now under bushes with all tracks removed and lot of bushes grown. No VIP is showing interest for speedy conversion of MV KKDI section as BG, which can serve as an alternate and best ECR route from Madras to Kanyakumari thereby reducing congestion in Cord line and Mainline sections. With recent approval of PKT thanjavur and PKT Mannargudi lines chances are bright for PKT becoming junction, but nobody is showing interest. Now, with the delay in laying Broad Gauge, bus lobby is minting money like anything. Request to younger generation is to apply come common knowledge and understand what is happening in India and around the world. Try looking into other states like Kerala and Karnataka and how they are growing. This itself is sufficient for the development of Pattukkottai. Even though settled in Chennai, I am frequently visiting Pattukkottai 3 or 4 times in a year.
