  Chauni Kalan i.e.,Cantonment Township,was a British cantonment in earlier times and was shifted to Jullundur later.In the mid-1950's a dilapidated church stood along a tree-lined road with other structures--apparently the main avenue of the cantonment.At the end of the road,about 500 yards further,was a graveyard--known as"gorian di khabaran" i,e.,"Britishers' graves".The tree-lined road does not exist anymore but the area is known as "Chauni Kalan".
