Eagle Rock (Los Angeles)

Eagle Rock is a neighborhood in northeastern Los Angeles, California. It is bordered by the city of Glendale on the north and west, Highland Park on the south, and the city of Pasadena on the east. Major thoroughfares include Eagle Rock Boulevard, Colorado Boulevard, and Figueroa Street. The Glendale and Ventura freeways run along the district's western and northern edges, respectively. A massive boulder at the district's northern edge contains an indentation which casts a vaguely bird-shaped shadow on the rock at certain times of day; the neighborhood derives its name from this geological feature.

Occidental College. Eagle Rock is the "new Silver Lake" and growing center of hipster culture.

Unfortunately and sadly, it is true. Home prices have skyrocketed (and are still climbing steadily, even in this down market), there's a zillion new little boutique-y shops and restaurants, and the single driver SUV count is ridiculous. It's become difficult to get a table at Casa Bianca. At least we still have Tommy's.

Another parallel with Silverlake: Just as the poor "hipsters" of Silverlake eventually had to move to the more ghetto Echo Park because of increasing rents and increasing disgust at hipster show biz yuppies, so to are the (what passes for) hipsters of Eaglerock moving to next door Highland Park, where you might still get shot for wandering down the wrong street. Ahhh, nothing like a little grit to separate the artists from the scenesters.
