Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park is a National Park Service unit which preserves the grounds of the Battle of Palo Alto, which occured on May 8, 1846.

Troops under the command of U.S. General Zachary Taylor ran head-long into a numerically superior Mexican force under the command of General Manuel Arista, in an attempt to lift the siege of Fort Brown. It was the first battlefield use of the new U.S. concept of "flying artillery", which led to the defeat of the Mexican forces. The battle was the first in a two-year long conflict that changed the map of North America.

The National Park Service preserves the site of this notable battle and provides an understanding of the causes, events, and consequences of the first war between the two independent Republics. The battlefield was designated a National Historic Landmark on December 19, 1960, and designated a National Historic Park on March 30, 2009.
