Sometimes referred to as Leggett's Hill. Key point in the Battle of Atlanta, July 22, 1864. Occupied by Leggett's Division, 17th Army Corps (US), with G.A. Smiths division extending south and eastwards. Assaulted by Cleburne's Division of Hardee's Corps (CS) beginning shortly after noon. Maney's division (Hardee) at around 3:30pm, and Stevenson's Division, Cheatham's Corps (CS) at around 4:00pm. Despite losing some ground US forces remained in possession of the hill at days end.
Once a prominent feature of Atlanta's eastern skyline, the hill was essentially bulldozed flat by the construction of I-20 and other development in the area during the 1950s - 1960s.
