Nihon Minka-en (Japanese Open-Air Folk House Museum)

Japan / Tokio / Komae / Masugata, 7-1-1
museum, house, architecture - Do not use this category

An excellent collection of traditional houses, moved here from all over Japan. Two dozen buildings are nestled in a wooded valley. Smaller than the open-air house museum in Takayama, it is of equal quality, and far more accessible. Relocation of traditional houses from all over Japan to Minka-en started in 1965, and by 2010 there are over two dosens of houses, including a village Kabuki stage, a shrine, and others. Near the West Gate, there is a Traditional Indigo Dyeing Workshop, and one can try to dye cloth him/herself.

A 15-minute walk from Mukougaoka-yuen station of the Odakyu line, which runs from Shinjuku Station in Tokyo, or 25 minutes walk from Noborito station (JR Nambu line).
