Satun (Thai: สตูล) is a town (thesaban mueang) in southern Thailand, capital of the Satun Province. It covers the whole tambon Phiman of Mueang Satun district. As of 2005 it has a population of 21,498.
Until 1813 Satun was a district of the Malay state of Kedah, then known as Setul in Malay. After that it was administered by a governor sent from Nakhon Si Thammarat. In 1897, Satun became part of the Monthon Triburi (Kedah), which in 1909 was divided between British and Siamese spheres of influence as part of Anglo-Siamese Treaty of 1909. It was then included into the Monthon Phuket. In 1933 the monthon was dissolved and the province became a first-level subdivision of Thailand.
