Accepted for US Navy service in October 1944, Bureau Number 46602 served with Patrol Bombing Squadron 45 (VPB-45) during the Second World War and was deployed to Naval Air Facility Ipitanga, Brazil to conduct antisubmarine patrols over the Atlantic Ocean.

Reassigned to Amphibious Patrol Squadron 5 (VP-AM-5) in November 1946 and based out of Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, the aircraft was subsequently passed through several reserve units before being moved into storage in Arizona where it was stricken from the Navy's register in 1956. Brought to the National Naval Aviation Museum in 1987, the aircraft was given an extensive restoration during the late 1990s.
