Lomonsov Moscow State Academy of Fine Chemical Technology is one the oldest chemical educational establishments in Russia. It was established as far back as in 1900 as a part of then Higher Female's Cources, which were reorganised after the Revolutions in the Buharin 2nd Moscow State University. After Buharin was dismissed from the highest powers in 1930, the University was divided into a Medical Insititute, a Teachers' Insititue, and a Chemical Insititute. The latter would become MITChT, or the Moscow State Institute of Fine Chemical Technology. It was honoured with Lomonsov's name in 1940 in recognitions of its achievments, and was renamed into Academy in early 1990s, when the common facion was to turn institutes into Universities or, at least, Academies.
MITChT inlcudes 2 territories, the older one near Frunzenskaya metro station, and the new one here. The new building was commissioned in stages, and after the Soviet Union collapse the northern part of the insitute remained unfinished for one and a hald decades. The economic rise of after 2000 make it possible to raise funds to complete the building. Some additional income was produced from allowing to build residential highrises in the institute land (they are clearly seen of the satellite view to the West and North of the insitute). Their construction was connected with one of a very well known crimes of late 1990s, when Dr.Frantsuzov, Dep.Director for Economic Activities and Business of the Academy was murdered. The construction of the highrises allowed the Academy to provide temporary habitats for young graduates(for the time they continue working in R&D for the Institute), as the Academy kept ownership of some of the appartments.
