- When completed, Moscow State University was the 7th-tallest building in the world, and the tallest outside New York City.
- The first building outside North America to surpass this building's height was KLI 63 Building in Seoul, completed in 1985.
- Moscow State University served as an inspiration for the design of Palace of Culture and Science.
- The 57-meter (187-foot) spire is topped by a star decorated with ears of wheat.
- This was the tallest building in Europe until 1988, when it was surpassed by MesseTurm. Today it is still one of Europe's tallest.
- Included in the building is a large 1500-seat auditorium, 19 conference rooms, 140 classrooms, 6000 student rooms, a student club, a library, numerous scientific laboratories, an agronomy museum, a swimming pool, and various gymnastic halls.
