A forest-clad, eroded andesitic volcano, 797 m (2615 ft), in the Waikato region surrounded by agricultural land.
This mountain is the focus of a community led group (Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust) looking to reintroduce native fauna to a pest free environment. To meet the restoration goals, the Trust has constructed a pest-proof fence around the entire mountain and undertaken a series of eradication programmes to eliminate possums, mustelids, rats, mice and wild cats (cats eat the birds - bad moggy's).
