Westdoc is the out-of-hours GP service, which has been developed on a partnership basis between General Practitioners and the Western Health Board.

It provides out of hours medical care to public and private patients of participating doctors in the Western Health Board region between 6.00pm and 8.00am, Monday to Friday and 24 hours on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. This service commenced operation on December 2nd, 2002 and was formed to develop and implement a more managed and streamlined approach to out of hours GP services in the Western Health Board region with emphasis on patient access and quality of service.

The service is by appointment and patients access the service via a lo-call number, 1850 365 000 and appointments with local General Practitioners are made by the Triage Nursing staff at a Call Centre located in Galway City.

Appointments with the GP are given at a particular centre or, where necessary, at the patient's place of residence. There are currently 104 GP's participating in Westdoc.
