The Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep III (At-Tarif)

Egypt / Qina / Armant / At-Tarif
 temple, archaeological site

Egyptologists long thought all that remained of the temple complex were the imposing Colossi of Memnon. In its day, it was the largest and one of the most ornate religious structures in the world. Amenhotep III called the complex "a fortress of eternity out of good white sandstone-worked with gold through out. Its floors were purified with silver, all its doorways were of electrum," an alloy of gold and silver. "Temple of Millions of Years" www.egyptsites.co.uk/upper/luxorwest/temples/amenhotep3...

  • Wow. When I was here there weren't any paved roads or parking lots nearby. Now it seems like half of Egypt is paved. Oh well.
