Former racetrack that was part of the Lakewood Fairgrounds. First race in 1917. Staged NASCAR events 1951-1959. Richard Petty claims to have won his first race here, but was disqualified after an appeal by his father, who had finished second. A few local races were held here in 1960s & 1970s. Track closed in 1979. Some scenes from the Burt Reynolds movies Smokey & The Bandit, and also Stroker Ace filmed here.
