This was a family bakery for many years. It was founded by Jack Hinkle circa 1950. His wife Marylin often helped out at the bakery during the busy holiday seasons. After Jack's passing, the business was carried on by his sons, Ron and John Hinkle. It was known for its Long-Johns, Apple Fritters, Butterflake Rolls, cookies, cakes, breads, amazing customer care and service, and its involvement in the Otsego community. The bakery was sold in the 1990's and is no longer in the Hinkle family. But its name lives on as a legacy to those who invested their lives and their love in years in the bakery and the Otsego community.
R.I.P. Grandpa Hinkle (Jack), Grandma Hinkle (Marilyn), and Uncle Ron.

  • As far as I know, The Big Fella (John Hinkle) has continued to satisfy the sweetness that people associate with Hinkle's Bakery through his successful venture - National Flavor Products. A company founded on family values and dedication to the highest level of quality and customer service. To know him is to love him and to love him is to be in love, and to not know him is to experience less than love.

  • My grandmother lived in Otsego and I remember Hinkle's well. Hinkle's products were a big part of many a family meal - delicate raspberry danish at breakfast, butterflake rolls at holiday dinners, and beautiful cakes for birthdays. Even the most basic item was made with care: their bread made an unparallelled grilled cheese. It was a family operation and very much part of the community. I miss it.
