Castlemartin Range covers about 2 390 hectares (5900 acres) of freehold land within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. It is a spectacular and interesting training area with excellent facilities and great scope for realistic and effective training by all arms and services, especially for various types of live firing.
Several secret weapons were tested here and it was the scene of a number of exercises during the build-up to D-Day. These exercises involved the construction of replica German defences - including mine-fields, trenches and anti-tank walls - which were attacked from the sea by the 79th Armoured Division.
