This is the little peak known as Dog Head. I have many pleasant memories being here and the view is incredible. You can see all of northern Taipei including Taipei American School. I lived here at #25, Road 2 from 1966 to 1970.

  • I lived in Wellington Heights, went to TAS and Dominican School in 64-66. Great place to be in 3rd-5th grades!
  • Dog Head - cool! Many a day and night there in the 70's.
  • This is dog head? i think we call it rock of warship?
  • I recently climbed Dog Head with my husband and family after 15 years since last visit. I lived in the neighborhood below at 5738 Young Ho Lee 1966-76 and had been climbing it since I was seven. The view is still amazing but a lot more built up than the 70's. It brought back a lot of memories.
  • Young Ho Lee was pretty much right at the base of Dog Head. I lived 60-62 Young Ho Lee from '68 to '70. Went to Dominican school for 2nd and 3rd grade. Tianmu looks a lot different from what I can see!
  • Dog Head, I can't tell you how may times I hiked up and down the mountain. I lived at 6011 Young Ho Lee 1970 - 1972, went to TAS 6-7 grade.
  • man - we lived here from 1980 - 1984 in wellington heigts and i went to tas... cool memories..$
  • I lived in Tien Mou (sp?)from summer 1959 to summer 1961 when my dad was assigned to MAAG. Those were the 5th and 6th grades for me, and I climbed that mountain many times. Never thought I'd find others who did this too. I remember well the copper mine near the base...dug by the Chinese under Japanese occupation. Sagging support timbers, dripping roof, the ore cars to ride. Also, not too far away, the caves once used for storing ammunition and supplies, swarming with thousands of bats. What a place for a kid to grow up in the 1950s!
  • I live in Tien Mu from 1960-62. Went to Dominican School 5th-6th grades. Climbed the mountain many times. At the top, if you turned left through the brush, there was an old Japanese bunker. Does anyone know the name of the mountain up and to the right? It looks like it is now covered with graves.
  • Lived in Tien Mou 70-71. Ran away from home and set up camp on Doghead. Mom and Dad crept up on us as we were frying up some steaks. Dad fell in a grave trying to hike down it in the dark. Never seen him move so fast and other than that instance, never heard him scream like a woman either. Don't know about now, but back then there were open graves ALL over the mountain when you got off the main trail. My initials may still be on that rock.
  • Well, well. Lived on shipai Lou (rd) from 79 - 84. On the corner next to the Paraguay embassy. Used to skate down the hill going up to the graveyards. Climbed it many a time and remember the caves. What a fantastic times. TAS rocks. Would love to hear from anyone who was there. Xhangar18@sky.com. Later peeps
  • Lived at 80-33 yung ho li from 1971-1977. I wonder if our house is still there. Wonderful memories
  • Mike Palumbo I lived in Tianmu and attended Dominican school 1970-'72 We lived on Road 7 house #4
  • I lived in Tien Mou from 1955 - 1957 and started school in a house until we were able to go to Taipei American school. Very few American children lived there at that time. I have many good memories of Grass Mountain and Dog Head Mountain and the freedom to explore.
  • From '67 to '70 I lived at 7 Yung Ming ,New Village just below the grave yard, Hiked up the mountain several times.
  • I (Tim Lilly) lived there (in Wellington Heights) from 1968 through 1972 with my mother (Catherine) and brother (Brian). My father (Tom Lilly) was the director of air operations for Air America in Military Region 2 (II Corps) in Nha Trang, Republic of South Vietnam under the faux auspices of the State Department's AID Program. I published a novel loosely based on his and my experiences there and in Taiwan www.outskirtspress.com/IICORPS I mentioned Dog Head in my novel and just for sh**s and giggles I just googled it to see what would come up and here you are! I recognize a few of the names of those who left comments.
  • Lived in wellington heights 66 - 71, house 23 road 2, right by the police station. We had the only pink color house on the hill. Went to Dominican school 5th through 9th grade. wonderful place to grow up and we hiked up to and beyond Dog Head many, many times.
  • I lived in Wellington Heights from 1968-1971. Our house had a view of Dog-Head-Mountain from the Backyard. My Dad was with AID in Vietnam and my Mom Ruth and I lived in Taiwan. I am going back to visit over Christmas with my children. So excited to go back.
  • Lived in Tienmu from 70-72. Had perfect view of Doghead from the corner of our front yard. My friend and I 'ran away from home' and parents caught us first night camping about half way up the mountain. Dad fell into an open grave inching our way back down the mountain after dark. Never seen him move as fast as he did jumping out of the hole. Never heard him make any other kind of noise as he made when he fell in either.
  • I lived in Wellington Heights as well from 72-73 before we moved closer into town in Tianmu where we lived until 77. We climbed up Dog Head Mountain all the time. So many great memories of that. Including finding the Japanese tunnels from WW2 in the mountain. It was pretty creeping crawling through those in the dark.
  • I lived near Stony Village in Tien Mou by a japanese cave from ww2
