Alishan (阿里山) is not a single mountain, but a range on Taiwan's spine, averaging 2,500 meters in high, is formed by Dawu Mountain range, Jian Mountain, Zhu Mountain and Ta Mountain and is composed of 18 peaks above 2,000 meters. The highest peak is 2663 meters above sea level. Taiwan's highest mountain, Yushan (3,952m) is easily visible from Alishan. Due to its elevation, Alishan is considerably cooler than the coast, Humidity is always very high, and indeed most surfaces in the park seem to be covered with a layer of luxuriant green moss.
