Point Dume State Preserve & Westward Beach Park-PUBLIC ACCESS
Entry to the Parks is from Pacific Coast Hwy. near Zuma Beach on Westward Beach Road. Westward Beach Park and the fee parking is here. Primary Public Access to Point Dume Preserve is from northwestern Westward Beach. Alternate Public Access is atop Point Dume, however parking on the streets here is almost non-existent and strictly enforced with towing.

Millions of people around the world have seen Point Dume without recognizing it. Its varied landscape makes it a Location favorite for countless commercials & movies, such as the ending scene of Planet of the Apes, where Charleton Heston discovers the Statue of Liberty and realizes that he is on Earth.

The small protected southwestern beach is known to locals as "Pirate's Cove". Access requires a scramble over the rocks at the south end of Westward Beach. Rock climbers are frequently spotted scaling the sheer face that rises 100 feet above the sand and terminates Westward Beach's southern boundary.
When seen from points south along the coast of the Santa Monica Bay, Point Dume rises above the bay and punctuates the local terrain with a distinctive flat top, the result of a previous landowner's attempt to flatten the peak in preparation for construction that never occurred. It is now protected by the state of California as Point Dume State Preserve.
