The Dutch Goose

Place for food.

This place tends to service people of all ages. It's styled like an old wooden countryside hamburger restraunt (completely informal), has a bar and current sports games on TV. This place also doubles as a social spot, with a pool table, and a few arcade game machines.

The Dutch Goose was the first non-academic, non-military node on the Internet. A worker at SRI (or Stanford University, I forget) had one set up so he could work there after work.

This is *THE* landmark people use when describing where West Menlo Park is. Everyone's heard of it, and it's the only thing they've heard of in West Menlo.

That story about being the first commercial node on the internet sounds fairly rather apocryphal, particularly considering that places like Bells Labs (AT&T) and Watson Research Labs (IBM) were on the net back when 'personal' computers were too large to lug into the Goose.
