Kangso County is located in northwestern Nampho. It borders Taedong County, South Pyongan Province, in the north, Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang in the east, and Chungsan County, South Pyongan in the west, and Onchon County, South Pyongan Province, in the southwest. The Pongsang River runs through the county from Susan-ri, east of the Oseok Mountains to Bosan-ri on the western banks of the Taedong (just southwest of Pyongyang). Kangso County has several small reservoirs within it. It is an endpoint and site of the Thaesong-Kaechon Hyrdo-Electric Power Corridor. There are several steel manufacturing facilties in Kangso County.
