Qilian Mountains stretches along the northeastern fringe of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with an average elevation of 4,000 meters. Its main peak, Qilianshan, is 5,547 meters above sea level. Extending more than 1,000 kilometers,it lies to the south of the Hexi Corridor in GanSu. The moutains rise more than 4,000 meters above sea level,and their snow drifts and glaciers are major water resources.
