Wadestown is a suburb of Wellington. It was established from the 1840's when two speculators, John Wade and James Watt, bought up land in a failed attempt to develop workers housing.
By the 1920's many large, fine houses had been built in the area and much of the older housing stock remains. Many of the street names in Wadestown are associated with William Barnard Rhodes and his family, who bought land in Wadestown in 1842.

In 2010, this was the wealthiest neighborhood in Wellington: Mt Cook, with 61 per cent of households on more than $89,000. www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/wellington/4352001/W...
