nuclear reactor, historical layer / disappeared object, nuclear research centre
Housed a running nuclear reactor for research by Nuclear Engineering students until arond 1996. While the proximity of the campus and reactor to the Olympics doubtlessly played a part, scandals involving mischeivous misuse of the reactor by unapproved students fuels the shutdown.
The building that once housed the reactor was torn down beginning in September 2006. The Neely Center and the Electronics Research Building next door have been demolished to make way for the new Nanotechnology Research Center.
