Lake Pamvotis

Lake Pamvotis is located by the city of Ioannina, Greece. The lake is believed to have been in existence for more than 10,000 years and has numerous legends attached to it. An important fact is that inside the lake, there is an inhabited island (pop. 600). This is one of a very few inhabited lake islands in the world. The lake has played a vigorous and significant role in the city's history and life of the inhabitants. It still provides water for local cultivation of land and it is the main recreational area for the vibrant city of Ioannina.
