The Atlanta in-town neighborhood of Cabbagetown. This is where Cat Power (aka Chan Marshall) is from. Home to the yearly Chomp-N-Stomp Chili and Bluegrass festival. Artist enclave once called the hippest place between So-Ho and South Beach. Now mostly yuppie gentrified. This neighborhood of workers cottages and shotgun houses was built mainly to support the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill, the first textile mill to re-open in Atlanta, GA after the Civil War.

Comments

  • Cabbagetown does not technically extend south of Memorial Drive. (But I would agree the section south of Memorial Dr has more in common with Cabbagetown than Grant Park).
  • During the 1970s-1980s after the mill closed down this was one of the roughest places in ATL. Not bad at all now.
