Four generations back our ancestors came to Kakwa from Naveli in Goa. The present place was given to us by Mulki Venkataramana Temple, nearly 400 years back. The present place earlier belonged to Sawanth Jains, a small ruler under the then Jain King. The present deities were worshipped by the then Jain people . The properties were all agricultural and Kamaths were originally in charge of agriculture here. One such Kamath (our Ancestor) was called here at the behest of the then Jain ruler for his honesty, loyalty and intelligence.
Mr Kamath had seven children who later migrated to seven different places as follows :
1) KAKWA some of them who later became famous hoteliers in Mumbai
2) CHAKRABADDI who were money lenders. Chakra means quarter rupee and that was the rate of interest then. They are settled in Karkala.
3) GANAPPAYA & SONS are ayurvedic medicine manufacturers they are residing at Mangalore
4) NARAYANA KAMATH Calicut are jewelers.
5) SURATKAL KAMATH FAMILY staying near Kashi Mutt at Suratkal are holding Kamath Family Vinayaka Chauthi at Suratkal.
6) KANHANGAD KAMATH FAMILY staying near Kanhangad Venkataramana Temple have given land for the present Kanhangad Venkataramana temple. Some of them have later migrated to Cochin for their profession of accounting and Law firms.
7) UDHYAVAR KAMATH FAMILY NEAR VEERA VITTAL TEMPLE .
Kakwa Kamath family have spread out to Mumbai, Kerala, USA, Kuwait, etc for their livelihood.
From the very beginning, the Kamath family have continued to worship a triangular shaped stone calling it Panchadeva. They offer Panchakajjaya naivedyam( a mixture of jaggery, coconut, beaten rice , puffed rice) and they also offer Panchamritha abhishekam ( mix of milk, curds, honey, ghee, sugar, tender cocnuts) to the Panchadeva and this offering is done every Sankramana(which is a day based on the solar calendar and which happens to come once in the middle of every English month).Devotees remember their Moola Naga by offering Panchamritham and other offerings at the time of Brahmaopadesham, house warming, weddings, etc in their families.
In the year 1969, Smt Radha Bai and family installed Panchadeva, Naga, Brahma, Rakteswari, Nandi separately and started doing the pooja every year.
The Varthapanjurli Manadeva Pooja was conducted by Kakwa Sri Manjunath Kamath.
In the year 1978, Sri Padmanabha Kamath and family empowered the triangular stone as Raktheswari and a separate Naga idol was installed. During this time poojas were conducted by Kakwa Sri Narasimha Kamath.
In the year 1989, both Radha Bai family and Padmanabha Kamath family under the advice of astrologer Padubidiri Devadas Sharma joined together to install all the deities separately under one roof. And hence the present five shrines of Naga, Brahma, Rakteswari, Nandi and Kshetrapala. All this was done under the advice of the oracle of Mulki Venkataramana Temple and the oracle of Naga Darsana Pathri, Sri Vasudeva Pai of Udupi.
In the year 1989 a committee called Sri Naga Brahmasthana Samithi, Kakwa was formed. Since then all activities are being conducted under their supervision.
